Wind of Renewal social cooperative enterprise of collective and social benefit (Greek)
The Greek social enterprise Wind of Renewal was constituted in 2014 for the promotion of social cooperative responsible economy, social entrepreneurship, green-circular economy, incorporation of democracy and human rights in financial and social life, as well as eco-social innovation.
Its main fields of intervention are:
- Awareness raising: Social Entrepreneurship Fora in Athens and other cities (2014-2017), Seminars on Planning Transition to Energy Efficient Cities, Workshops on Energy Cooperatives in Schools;
- Capacity building of public authorities and social stakeholders on eco-social sustainability (2015);
- Consulting services and support for bottom-up initiatives;
- Research/Policy: policy paper on Energy Poverty in Greece, Social Innovation Proposals to address the phenomenon (2017), policy paper on green regional development (2015);
- Refugees’ reception and integration services: housing, empowerment, social inclusion;
- Networking and sharing best practices at local, national and European level.
Among others, in September 2016, Wind of Renewal implemented the Welcommon Project, in cooperation with the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (EATA) and UNHCR, which created a model community center for hosting and promoting social inclusion of refugees. WELCOMMON hostel is not only a high-standard accommodation for sustainable tourism, but also the venue of many activities organized by the guests themselves, for non-formal education and social inclusion of refugees.
